Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Texas Nanotechnology Initiative?
The Texas Nanotechnology Initiative (TNI) is a state-wide consortium focused on bringing nanotechnology companies, researchers, and funding together to create an environment conducive to the rapid commercialization of nanotechnology in Texas.

Who started it?
TNI was started in 2002 by Jim Von Ehr (Founder, Chairman& CEO of Zyvex Corporation) and Glenn Gaustad.

Why now?
Nanotechnology is entering hypergrowth phase, with targeted programs in Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, California, and Washington. If we don't take the initiative now, we will lose the opportunity.

Why Texas?
Quality of life, business-friendly, centrally located in the heart of the USA, good transportation, and a "can do" attitude.

How is it organized?
TNI is a 501(c)6 non-profit organization coordinated through our website.

Can other states join this effort?
While our primary focus will naturally be on Texas, we welcome participation from other states in order to collaborate on a national agenda

Is this a lobbying group, a funding group, a recruiter, or what?
The best general description for TNI is as a state-wide industry trade group for nanotechnology. We will act to further the interests of our members through networking, education, and communication in order to promote the steady growth of a robust nanotechnology community in Texas.
