Topic: "Heating Up the Race for Cancer Treatments"

Nanoshells are a new class of materials invented by the team headed by Dr. Naomi Halas at Rice University. They are optically tunable nanoparticles which exhibit strong absorption of selected wavelength of light. This application of nanophotonics is particularly suited to utilization for the development of non-invasive cancer theraputics. Mr. Payne will discuss the nature of the technology, the range and development of applications, and the formation of the company and its progress. This exciting, non-pharmaceutical treatment will be able to enter the medical marketplace much faster than a drug-based alternative.

Cost: $30 – includes dinner
